The new L598x family of step-down monolithic power switching regulators
is capable of delivering an output current in excess of 2 A, for
a wide range of applications in industrial, consumer, computer and
data communication segments. This family easily fits the required
specifications in terms of size, weight and cost of these market
segments.

The L598x is a new family of step-down monolithic power switching
regulators. Thanks to their wide input voltage range, from 2.9 V
up to 18 V, and the output voltage range down to 0.6 V, these devices
feature great flexibility. The embedded low RDS(on) P-channel MOSFET
(150 mΩ typ) means the device can manage up to 100 % duty
cycle. Another important feature is the switching frequency that
can be adjusted from 250 kHz to 1 MHz by an external resistor. The
L598x is also suitable for MLCCs (Multi Layer Ceramic Capacitors)
as an output filter. Additional monitoring and protection functions
such as overcurrent, UVLO, thermal shutdown and internal digital
soft-start combined with the thermally performing DFN3x3-8L package,
allow the realization of a robust and compact application with a
minimum number of external components. The devices can also be synchronized
with an external signal, or together in a MASTER/SLAVE configuration,
with a phase shift of 180 °C.
