SNAPHAT^®! It's a "SNAP"!

The ST's SNAPHAT is an innovative, low cost surface-mounting solution for NVRAM products. The SO surface mount package contains the SRAM and the control circuit, and the SNAPHAT top includes the battery for ZEROPOWER^® devices, as well as the battery/crystal for TIMEKEEPER^® devices.

The SO package is soldered using conventional reflow techniques and the battery top is snapped on after assembly is complete. The SOIC portion of the SNAPHAT features a package which can be mounted to the PC board as easily as any other IC.

The SNAPHAT's unparalleled reliability results from the fact that the battery can be snapped onto the SOIC after reflow soldering. The SNAPHAT package avoids subjecting the battery to the tortuous temperatures of the SMT reflow process. In addition the lithium power cell can be easily replaced in the field to extend data retention far beyond the device's 7-10 year rating.

Lower part count and development costs are the results of the SNAPHAT's smaller footprint. Substantial development time and PC board space savings are realized.
