Intelligent power switches for automotive

In order to meet the growing car body market demand, increasingly focused on intelligent power switches (IPS) able to protect themselves and the load against hazardous conditions such as overload or short circuit, STMicroelectronics has introduced a family of intelligent power switches for automotive applications.

Designed using VIPower™  (vertical intelligent power) M0-5 technology, the M0-5 high-side family guarantees excellent reliability and offers a variety of products available in several RDS(on) sizes and numbers of channels per device (single, double or quad channels). All the products are equipped with detailed diagnostic features offered in two different options:

Analog current sense: a current proportional to the output is delivered to the CS pin.
The diagnostics monitors the thermal shut-down, fixing the CS pin at VSENSEH

Analog

Digital status: during the on-state, the STATUS pin allows a microcontroller to monitor open-load and thermal shutdown conditions. In off-state, the pin provides feedback on open load/short to Vcc

Digital

VIPower M0-5Enhanced semiconductors complement the M0-5 product portfolio. They offer the same features and protection strategy, plus an enriched diagnostics, which ensures a wider load compatibility, obtained by an increase in the current limitation.

M0-5Enhanced: What’s new?

Wider variety of load compatibility through current limitation range optimization
Immediate diagnostics reaction to short-to-ground or overload conditions when power limitation is detected
Open-load/short to VCC detection in off-state for analog current sense option as well
