STMicroelectronics and Freescale joint development program

The STMicroelectronics/Freescale joint development program (JDP) is a collaboration between two powerful automotive technology suppliers that will complement each company's independent roadmaps. Headquartered in Munich, Germany, and jointly managed by Freescale and ST, the JDP is accelerating the penetration of Power Architecture™ products in the automotive market and strengthening Power Architecture's position as the dominant automotive 32-bit architecture.

The agreement between the companies covers:

High-performance, cost-effective 32-bit microcontrollers based on Power Architecture cores
Basic intellectual property for automotive and navigation applications
Alignment of 90nm embedded flash process technology
High-voltage power MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors) and IGBT (insulated-gate bipolar transistor) technologies New products are being jointly developed in the JDP design centers but will be independently manufactured (using aligned process technologies), branded, priced, marketed and serviced by both Freescale and ST

Key benefits
Standardizing on 32-bit Power Architecture products for automotive applications with a single software development investment, maximum software reuse and common hardware environment

Enlarged Power Architecture-based product portfolio Accelerated availability of innovative Power Architecture-based products by joined development focus
Secured and faster product and technology design and innovation
Real dual-source environment for critical, leading-edge components that includes a healthy, secure and competitive supply chain with a focus on cost competitiveness
Synergic joint development and industrialization of leading-edge EmbFlash technology
Synergic support and technical training from two leading automotive semiconductor companies
