STMicroelectronics developed DSP-based hardware
decoder chips for Coding Technologies' new mp3PRO audio
coding standard, the second generation format that enhances
audio quality and reduces file size.
The new decoders are based on ST's proprietary MMDSP+ 24-bit
digital signal processor core that is designed specifically
for high quality audio applications.
Today the MMDSP+ core is used in all ST's MP3 decoders plus chips
for voice recognition, noise/echo cancelling and other functions.
Thanks to the optimized core
ST's mp3PRO decoder chips will minimize
power consumption, stretching battery
life.
For the implementation of mp3PRO on the MMDSP+ ST co-operates closely
with Coding Technologies, the creator of the MP3 and mp3PRO format
