ST can provide secure microprocessors with USB interfaces and/or dual 7816/USB interfaces that enable applications, especially PC based, to be limited only by your imagination, with secured log-in, secured email, digital signatures, secure intranet /extranet/intranet/remote access all becoming reality. The portability of the USB based device allow users to carry with them their secure digital signature and also a biometric signature, and use this to identify themselves securely whether it be on their home PC, in the office, on the road with a portable or in an Internet café.
The Trusted Computer Group (TCG) is working to enhance security at the BIOS, OS (operating system) and platform hardware levels by complementary security features that will ensure end-to-end security. One element is the addition of a secure hardware component at motherboard level, which provides a trusted root on which BIOS and OS security may be built. This root is the trusted platform, a motherboard security component which is set to transform the system level security of both PC's and networks.
