Lambinet was born in Le Mans, France, in 1957. He graduated
from the Paris Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité in
1979 with a Master’s degree in Electronics.
Lambinet has worked in the computer, semiconductor and electronic
industries for more than 28 years. He began his professional career
as a software engineer with Control Data Corporation in 1979.
In 1980, Lambinet joined Thomson’s semiconductor subsidiary
EFCIS to work in product engineering. After the merger in 1987
of SGS Microelettronica and Thomson Semiconducteurs into SGS-THOMSON
Microelectronics (now STMicroelectronics) he supervised ASIC Operations
at Thomson’s Mostek Corporation in Carrollton, Texas.
In 1990, Lambinet took charge of design and marketing for Mixed
Signal Semicustom Products within the Company’s Programmable
Products Group. At that time he contributed to laying foundations
of the cooperation with Nokia, which has subsequently become STMicroelectronics’
largest customer.
For the following ten years, Lambinet rose through the ranks
to become Group Vice President and General Manager of the Digital
Video Division in 1997, responsible for the definition, design,
production, marketing and business development of digital video
system-on-chip products. Under his leadership, ST grew to be the
leading supplier of integrated circuits for set-top boxes and
its digital video business rose tenfold between 1997 and 2000.
In 2001, Lambinet joined Advanced Digital Broadcast Group (ADB),
one of ST’s customers in the digital home entertainment
arena, as Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer. He led the evolution
of ADB from a pure pay-TV set-top-box vendor into a global leading
supplier of digital TV. His responsibilities included planning,
development and implementation of the company's overall product
and business strategies. During Lambinet’s tenure, ADB’s
revenues grew more than fivefold and the company went public on
the Swiss stock exchange in 2005.
In August 2007, Philippe Lambinet made a further step in his career
and rejoined STMicroelectronics as Corporate Vice President, General
Manager Home Entertainment & Displays Group. Additionally,
he holds responsibility for ST’s Grenoble, France site,
and is a member of the Company’s Executive Committee, comprised
of ten senior corporate executives in addition to the COO and
the CEO.
