G. Bertino - BiographyGian Luca Bertino was born in Ivrea (Italy) in 1960. He graduated from the Polytechnic of Turin with a degree in Electronic Engineering.

Bertino started his professional career in digital IC design for Olivetti. In 1990, he was promoted to Product Leader of Ultraportable PCs at Olivetti Personal Computers. In that role, Bertino coordinated Olivetti’s related R&D activities in Italy and Japan and contributed to the successful launch of two new product series. In recognition of his achievements, Bertino was promoted to the Head of Development, Portable PCs, in 1995.

In 1997, Bertino joined STMicroelectronics as the Market Development Manager for computer sales in Europe. A year later, he was promoted to Director of the Computer and Consumer Business Unit, responsible for sales and marketing in the European region. Leveraging his strong background in the computer business, Bertino succeeded in generating new business opportunities and doubling ST’s computer sales between 1998 and 2000. On the strength of these achievements, in 2000 he was appointed Region Vice President, Computer and Consumer Business Unit.

As the Region VP, Bertino managed to intensify the cooperation and interaction between his sales organization and the relevant product divisions, particularly in the Consumer & Microcontrollers Group. He also recognized and met the opportunities and challenges of Digital Convergence.

In January 2003, Bertino joined ST’s Telecom, Peripherals & Automotive Group as its Vice President and General Manager of the Data Storage Division. In this role, he further strengthened ST´s strategic partnerships in the hard disk segment and helped the Company maintain its leadership in System-on-Chip solutions.

In 2005, the Computer Peripherals Group (CPG) was established as one of the Company’s product groups and Bertino was promoted to Corporate Vice President and CPG General Manager.

In August 2008, Bertino’s group was expanded to include Communication Infrastructure and changed its name to the Computer and Communication Infrastructure Product Group.
